Five months down and just over two to go! Hard to believe that we are already so far into the programme, although for those involved it feels like a lifetime! The programme is still on target and we are aiming for a completion date in early August, barring any unforseen issues.
The fitting out of the shop is scheduled to take place in July and once complete, there will be a short transition period whilst the shop move takes place and then the shipping container will be removed from site. All being well we hope that the community shop and post office will begin to trade from the new building at the end of July.
The contractor has completed the roof to the new community shop, which means the roofing works are almost complete. All that remains is the cladding to the parapets. Some of the photos, such as those that show the rooflights over the existing A-frame and the view from the porthole window are unusual in that they won't be as easy to take once the scaffold comes down so we have posted them on the site for posterity!
Hip tiles, fascia, soffits and windows have all been fitted and the building is weather tight. First fix electric cable runs and heating pipes have been installed and internal plastering has commenced.
The roof to the main hall has been stripped and new insulation fitted and solar PV panels and tiles installed to the southern facing pitch. Not only does this address long standing maintenance issues with the roof, some of which were not apparent until work started, but it will make the building warmer and much more energy efficient in future.
The BT lines and equipment for the new post office were installed at the end of May ready for the post office to install and commission their till and computer system in July.
I hope you are finding the gallery of photos interesting. Take a look at the latest set below to see how the inside of the building is coming along and if you have any questions drop us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
