The contractors have been busy working on both the exterior and interior of the hall this month. The second fix electric supply and central heating pipes have been installed and internal plastering completed. Internal decoration is underway and the new community shop is nearing completion. The vinyl sheet flooring in the shop will be installed by early July. Next to be installed is sanitaryware, carpets, entry mats and sliding doors. Externally, the render has been applied and will be painted off-white.
The community shop has agreed a shop layout with the post office and a detailed programme for the shop fit out has been prepared to ensure that the shop can open in the new building on Monday 27th July. The BT lines and equipment for the ‘new’ post office have been installed. The counter will be installed in early July, which will enable the lines to be connected up to the till and computer system.
The programme is still on track for completion on Friday 7th August 2015. The existing post office branch (housed in the ship’s container) will close to the public on 14th July, the unit will then be emptied of stock and equipment by 24th July and removed from site. That will allow the external works to be completed in time for the completion date.
The community shop will trade while the external works (re-surfacing and marking out the car park, landscaping, paving and installing cycle racks) are being implemented. Pedestrian access to the shop will be provided from the bowling green (northern) side of the site with the external works area fenced off. The external works will then be able to be implemented in one phase physically separated from the pedestrian route.
